What is freedom?
I spend almost 20 years understanding what freedom really is. You can never understand freedom until you have actually experienced it. There are many forms of freedom and they are probably manifested at different stages of one's life; financial freedom, legal freedom, moral freedom, emotional freedom, social freedom...
What I am experiencing right now is conceivable yet indescribable, the freedom to re-discover myself after having gone through 12 years of rigorous educational curriculum and 2 donkey years of National Slavery. These 8 months of do-what-you-want period provides the best opportunity to experience meaningful things other than mugging, digging trenches and paper chasing. I can't imagine the hectic lifestyle and the back-to-books regime that I have to go thru once uni terms starts in August. So, now is still the best time to enjoy!
~~Freedom is when I dun have to constantly monitor my grades and outdo my peers to get the A grade. Freedom is when I dun have to stay awake on my bunk bed fearing that OC/CSM will barge in and confine me over the weekends. Freedom is when I am no longer caged in a camp from monday to friday, far away from all forms of civilisation and performing the duties of a bangla worker for 500/month. Freedom is when I dun have to wake up in the morning cursing and swearing why I have to work or go to school.
Freedom, like happiness, is a choice rather than a consequence. But it has its implications.
Right now, freedom is about enjoying the last 8 months of my adolescence before reaching another phase of my life.

Letter to SPH

Just a day before our transport minister unveiled plans last friday to bring about an overhaul to our public transport system, I wrote my first ever letter to SPH complaining to them about my fustration with the SBS bus i took to pasir ris mrt. That cost me to miss my ever-on-time company shuttle bus that takes me to UPS.
Surprisingly I received a call on Sunday from SPH and my small and edited article was published on Monday! Maybe my letter rang a bell for LTA to take some actions. I think our transport infrastructure seriously needs a revamp if we are to remain as world-class. In Hong Kong, I learnt that the waiting time for their MRT is always below 5 mins and that is something we need to achieve too.
I still have in my mind, a whole load of suggestions to improve our transport system...maybe LTA can grant me their scholarship and groom me up haha. I will make sure no more long waiting times and value-for-service fares!

Black Monday
Today is the second day of a long coming week and I am starting to recover from my monday blues. Yesterday was certainly a gloomy day for me, and as usual facing the computer keying in data and analysing the cost of shipment continuously. I was lucky that I left my house early and caught up with the shuttle bus at Pasir Ris which ferried me to my workplace, otherwise I had no idea how I could get to work when the god-damn MRT system was out of service for the whole morning!
To add oil to fire, the STI(Straits Times Index) fell by 6 %, a stunning 187 points drop to below the 3000 mark. And I think this is a worst single day drop for a long time. Not only was tension and anxiety felt in the Singapore stock market alone, stock markets across the globe tumble significantly too. What does all these imply? A beginning of a bear market? Most probably. With the greenback drepreciating in value, a rise in oil prices and recession of the US economy caused by her sub-prime crisis, the bear is very likely to strike any moment.
I read an article recently that reported the linear relationship between human emotions, weather and the stock market. This is very true because we have to admit that the market is driven mainly by fears, anxiety, confidence, all which are symbolic to basic human emotions. But what is interesting is that studies have shown that stocks generally perform better on a fine weather than on a dark, gloomy day. The data was produced by analysing the rise and fall of stocks on every single day of the year and a high percentage of good performing stocks appreciate on a fine day! I am sure Warren Buffet might want to incorporate weather patterns into his investment strategy as one of the deciding factors for selecting winning stocks.
Overall, it was still a gloomy Monday for me and most people out there. Hope to gain some insights late in the week.

My first blog
The first question that comes to my mind when I start typing off this first entry is why am I creating a blog all of a sudden? A blog itself serves a multitude of purposes and the following are what I can think of: earn money, advertise products and services, gain popularity by attracting viewers, or simply treat it as a personal online diary!
Here I am, sitting in my office on a boring Monday afternoon staring at the computer, at the same time, waiting for job tasks to be assigned to me! The thought of starting a blog never crossed my mind previously probably because I was too occupied with my school work and subsequently, army life.
Perhaps now is a good time to reflect on myself and my surroundings and put them across in words. Hopefully this can be a platform for me to spend my seemingly "free" life bringing out daily issues and sharing my personal experiences, at the same time allowing me to sharpen my language knife after being left blunt and obsolete since I handed in my GP essay 2 years ago!
To all friends and blog viewers, enjoy your time here and I greatly appreciate all your comments!
